I love coming down here on my bicycle and just looking around

One thing to know about the museum is that it is only open 1 pm - 4 pm only on Saturday. We coincidentally arrived at 1:30pm on a Saturday. We met a very pleasant, kind, 86 year old volunteer (RM [his name]) who had brought his 99 years old aunt with him as he volunteered to be a host during its 3 hours a week opened time. RM said that the quaint small building, that obviously has the look of a small church, was originally a black congregation's church and was moved (relocated) from elsewhere in Hawthorne to its current location. RM at age 14 had met Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings - who wrote the book "The Yearling" - at the local grocery store where he worked. She gave him his very first tip of 10 cents which he said could buy a loaf of bread at the time. Her little cabin house at Cross Creek is just down the road a few miles. This is a very nice small museum about the local area. We're glad we stopped there.
