Fascinating and well maintained historic property. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly and eager to talk about the history of the area as well as the property and its most famous resident. An interesting day trip and a throwback to old Florida. Some of the less appealing aspects of Rawlings' life are downplayed but that is to be expected of a state-run property. Overall a neat place to check out and the guided tours are well worth the $2 fee.
Learn of a time gone by. See where Marjorie actually wrote her books.
You can visit thhe homestead of Marjorie and learn about life in her time. This costs a small fee. Next to the homestead is a park with playground, a boat ramp, and some bank to fish from. I have caught bass and crappie here. Beware the occasional 'gator.
All natural, the vast majority of things are original, and beautiful. I accompanied my mother here the Sunday following mother's day. A man toured us with much information that was tastefully delivered. He was able and willing to answer questions, and there was not one he didn't know that I asked him. Very calm and lovely, with authenticity that isn't found everywhere!
What an amazingly quaint little state park! Not much to do but tour the property and her 1930's farmhouse.
